NEW ARTIST FEATURE! Louisiana’s own singer/dancer @AshleyCoedz from Metairie, La. has been destined to be a singer from a very young age. She is currently making her dreams a reality as she is now one third of the hot new upcoming group “The Coedz” based out of Atlanta Georgia.

Where are you originally from?

I’ve lived in other states growing up (Virginia and Texas) but I am originally from Metairie,LA. I’m now residing in Atlanta,Ga.

When did you decide to pursue music?

Singing/performing has always been my passion; as young as age 5. I didn’t really start pursuing it until my senior year of high school. Society scares you into thinking you have be a certain way and fit into this box, but I never wanted that “9-5” type of life. Being independent,doing my own thing and making my own way has always been important to me. I’ve always hated being told what to do. One day I just woke up and decided I was going to do the things that made me happy!

Did you have any doubts? or struggles?

I feel like anytime you make a big decision in life there are going to be doubts and trials. I’ve definitely had all of that but that’s also a part of life. Just like everyone else I have good days and bad days. Any time you take a risk, which you have to be willing to do in this business, it’s going to be hard. For me that was moving to another state and being taken completely out if my comfort zone on all levels and pretty much starting over. Without struggles the good things in life just wouldn’t be as sweet and we wouldn’t be as grateful for it. Struggles keep you grounded and humble but they also keep you strong. No matter what its important to me to stay positive. Personally my spiritual beliefs have helped me persevere. I learned never to doubt what God wants for me even if I’m not sure it’s what I want, I feel like his purpose for me is greater than I can ever understand. I’ve always felt in my heart that I was made to make a difference and help people in any way I can. That’s my whole goal and what keeps me going through any doubt and struggles I face.

What is the biggest thing you have accomplished so far in your career?

The biggest thing so far has been the release of my first single ever on iTunes with my girl group The Coedz called “Summer Love” and a second single coming soon to iTunes called “House Party”. The filming of my first music video tops the list as well! My group is also newly affiliated with a new T.V. Show that my bandmate,Loren, Stars in.

What do you like about being in an all girl group?

Ahhh what do I not like about it! The way the group came together was an act of God 100%. There is no other explanation! McKenzie (the attitude) and Loren (the diva) are my sisters. It’s so amazing to go on this crazy rollercoaster journey with two people who completely understand you. I can’t imagine doing this without them. I love how much fun we have while getting to do the things we’ve loved since we were little girls. It’s such a blessing. We are all so different and have our own ideas and opinions but at the same time we are all going for a common goal and going through the same ups and downs. Also, we have the same spiritual beliefs as Christians and put God first in everything we do. It’s really cool to share this bond with them. We have each others backs and keep eachother motivated.

Are their any words of encouragement you can tell those who are trying to make it in the industry?

My words to someone trying to make it in the industry is to always stay true to yourself and NEVER doubt yourself. If you felt a pull on your heart to do something there was reason. I’d tell them to stay hungry but always grateful, stay focused,always give more than you think is needed. If you want something you’ll find a way to make it happen!

What is your favorite NOLA band/artist?

My favorite Nola band right now is MyNameIsJohnMichael, they have soulful New Orleans flare that I love.

What is your favorite food in NOLA?

Gumbo is my number 1 Nola fav! I haven’t found a restaurant yet that can compare to my dads recipe!
